Kraken's Lair was among the first pieces I commenced work on when my mode of composing music switched from the limitations of four-track cassette recording to the current generation of multitrack timeline-based digital audio workstations. It took shape over a number of occasional developmental sessions spanning six years until reaching the final state now established. Utilising both electroacoustic and synthesized elements, this 'picture music' was intended to sonically visualise on an abstract level an encounter with the beast of legend and the moods associated with its environment.

A shorter edit of the piece was prepared for spatial multichannel diffusion at St Andrew's Church, Jarrom Street, Leicester, as part of a Hear This Space event held on 27th January 2010. Thanks to David Dhonau whose ambient recording (included here), while not being able to fully capture the spatial movement, succeeds in preserving an idea of some of the acoustic properties of the church in the context of the piece.
